Zanmi Crochet Square Pattern

Friendship Blanket Crochet-Along (CAL) 2021

The Friendship Blanket CAL is a great initiative hosted by Sunflower Cottage Crochet to create beautiful blankets while learning multiple stitches. I named my square Zanmi. The Haitian word for friends and friendship.

29 designer friends have put together to bring you this crochet-along. Each designer designed at least one 9″ square which can easily be assembled to make a blanket, pillow, or anything else you’d like. To find out more about how this CAL works click here.

• Only 35 squares are needed to create your blanket, however, 40 squares are available so you can truly make it your own and try new stitches.

Pattern Notes

• Beginner pattern
• Written in US crochet terms
• Yarn yardage: 28 grams worsted weight yarn
• Hook: 5mm/US H8

Stitch Abbreviations

• Ch – Chain
• St(s) – Stitch(es)
• Tss – Tunisian Simple Stitch
• Yo – Yarn over

Note: Chain 3 counts as dc throughout.

Cross Behind (CB): Treble working in sk sts and behind 2 sts just made. Flip your work so the back is facing, then work
your trebles inserting the hook from back to front in the first then second skipped sts.

Cross Front (CF): Treble working in the sk sts and in front of 2 sts just made. Insert your hook as usual making sure to
bring the hook up in front of 2 sts just made.

Abbreviations
Ch= Chain
Sk= Skip (ped)
CB= Cross Behind
CF= Cross Front
St(s)= Stitch (es)
Dc= Double Crochet
Tr= Treble

Instructions
Ch36.
R1: Dc in 6th ch from hook, tr in next ch, 2 CB. * Sk next 2 ch, tr in next 2 ch, 2 CF.* Sk next 2 ch, tr in next 2 ch, 2 CB.
Repeat from * across, ending with **. Dc in last ch.
R2: Ch3, turn. *Sk next 2 tr, tr in next 2 sts, 2 CB. Sk next 2 tr, tr in next 2 sts, 2 CF.* Repeat from to across. Dc in
turning ch.
Repeat row 2 10 more times.
Fasten Off. Block your square to size. Weave ends.
