MEET THE GEEK CHIC COWL
Hey everyone, I’m Divya, the Designer and maker behind Stringtierey.
I am an architect by profession, but handmade crafts have been my passion for life. I started crochet 20 years back, as a hobby and a summer project after Highschool. It was one of the crafts that always kept me wanting for more and stuck with me for lifetime. Crafts and more so crochet helps me everyday to balance life and keep sane! Engrossed in the monotonous hustle bustle of life, the creative side of me was craving to get back into crafts, and that’s when Stringtierey was born. Making crochet handmade and designing has truly been exhilarating and never in m wildest dreams had I thought I would be a crochet designer.

It was an absolute honor and a wonderful experience collaborating with Elisabeth for the a winter design and The Geek Chic Cowl took shape. Its a stylish, professional, must have winter accesory, that not only looks chic but totally gives the sexy librarian vibe. It is a collared Cowl that is so versatile that it goes with any outfit. The design concept began with trying to elevate the regular cowls with a touch of elegance. Thus began the thought process to combine collar with cowl. The design integrates a winged collar with a turtle neck, the end result giving a refined appearance.

BLOCKING:
Soak the collar and neck piece in water with a mild detergent. Rinse in clear water and gently squeeze the water out. Do not wring or scrub the Wrap. Lay flat on a towel and roll it. Press and squeeze as much as possible. Stretch and Lay flat to dry and pin the corners for the design to stand out.
ASSEMBLY OF NECK AND COLLAR:
Place the collar such that the wrong side of the 1st foundation row faces you. Fold the collar at point G as shown in the above sketch. Align the collar as shown with points D and e joined together and the Neck piece placed in the middle. Using mattress stitch, join the neck piece to the sides of the collar working only in the loops as described below. Fasten off and weave in the tails.

Mattress stitch in back loops:
Since the wrong side of the foundation row is facing in front, we shall be using the front loop of the top v and the 3rd loop in front together for the mattress stitch.

COWL:
With 4.5mm hook.
Now we will be working in the rounds for the ribbed cowl section.
ROUND 1: dc in each n every stitch working only in the front n 3rd loop of the foundation stitches as shown below. Sl st to 1st dc. [104, 106, 108, 116, 118]

ROUND 2: ch2, FPDC, *BPDC 2, FPDC 2,* Repeat * to * till the last stitch, FPDC in the last st. Sl st to the 1st FPDC to close. [104, 106, 108, 116, 118]
Repeat Round 2 till the cowl section measures 5 inches from the collar or till desired height.
Now place marker including point G, H and the start of the cowl. Sew all three points together tightly.
Fasten off. Weave in all the ends.

And you are done!! Flaunt your Geek Chic Cowl!!
