Hello there! I’m Amy Kate, a young but passionate knitter, crocheter, Christian, and college student. I learned to knit and crochet when I was about ten, but really fell in love with both arts at age 12. My career goal is to be able to run all things The Graceful Tangle full time! YouTube, Instagram, Partnerships with companies, and of course, designing patterns. The year of 2020 has shown huge growth for me. I made myself the challenge to release one pattern (knit or crochet) every single week. Let me tell you, this is a loft goal. However, I have worked hard and learned SO much throughout the process.
Not only that, but I also graduated high school in the Spring, and am now in my first year of college, studying Accounting Technology. Balancing all these things can be difficult, but by His grace I am finding my way.
The Cocoa Wrap is designed for you to still look cute and “put together” on those chilly winter days. I love wearing a decent outfit…but feeling like I am wrapped in a warm blanket! It is made using half double crochet, single crochet, and chain stitches to create the simplest, but most beautiful, stitch pattern. It uses worsted weight yarn and a large hook to achieve a wonderful drape, which makes it works up so fast!

Pattern Notes
● The Cocoa Wrap pattern and photographs are the property of Amy Kate Sutherland and are for personal, non-commercial use only. You may not alter, share, or sell this pattern in any way. However, you are more than welcome to sell the finished product. Please credit Amy Kate Sutherland by including a link to the pattern listing if you are selling the finished piece online.
● This pattern is written for sizes XS(S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X) to fit bust sizes 28-34(34-40, 40-46, 46-52, 52-58, 58-64, 64-70) inches in circumference. To pick your size, I suggest measuring your bust at its widest point, and picking the size that best suits it. For example, the model has a 31” bust and is wearing the size XS.
● The length is approximately 30(30, 32.5, 32.5, 35, 35, 37.5) inches measured from the shoulder to the hem. Note that this stitch pattern might stretch a bit, due to both the weight and the open-ness of it. This is perfectly ok!
● Note that this garment is designed to have a significant amount of positive ease. That being said, if you’d like less positive ease, simply size down.
● The ch 1 at the beginning of each row does NOT count as a stitch
● The ch 1 spaces on the single crochet rows DO count as one stitch
● If you’d like to customize the length of your Cocoa Wrap, simply repeat rows 3 and 4 (see pattern) less/more times. Note that these changes will affect your yardage.

f/o and weave in ends, proceed to Left Front Panel instructions
Left Front Panel:
To work the following set up row, lay your kimono with the right side facing, and with the right front panel on YOUR right. The front panel should be draped over the front, and the back panel should be facing you.
Set up row: Count BACK 23(25, 26, 30, 33, 37, 40) ch 1 spaces from the LEFT of your completed back panel (row 72). Don’t count the first sc stitch. Join your yarn to the 23rd(25th, 26th, 30th, 33rd, 37th, 40th) ch 1 space. *hdc 2 in ea ch 1 space* until the end of the row, hdc 1 in the last sc. 47(51, 53, 61, 67, 75, 81) sts
There will be a few sts unworked in between the right and left front panels. This is intentional, and allows a bit more comfort for the neck. (see photo below)
Row 1: ch 1 and turn. Sc in the first st, *ch 1, skip 1, sc in the next st* until the end of the row. 47(51, 53, 61, 67, 75, 81) sts
Row 2: ch 1 and turn. *hdc 2 in ea ch 1 space* until the end of the row, hdc 1 in the last sc. 47(51, 53, 61, 67, 75, 81) sts
Rows 3-72(72, 78, 78, 84, 84): repeat rows 1 and 2. 47(51, 53, 61, 67, 75, 81) sts
f/o, proceed to Seaming instructions
Seaming:
Fold your Cocoa Wrap so that the WS is facing out, and the front panels are folded on top of the back panel.
Starting on the right side, and using the mattress stitch, seam up the side seam. Seam until you have 6(6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9) inches of fabric remaining, measured from the shoulder to the last stitch you seamed. Feel free to leave a smaller/larger armhole, but keep in mind that this wrap is designed to be oversized and cozy. I would suggest leaving more inches, rather than less. (see below picture)
f/o, and repeat for the left side.
Flip your wrap to the RS, weave in all your ends, and block to finished measurements (if desired). The sample is not blocked.
Enjoy your new Cocoa Wrap!
