Hello everyone, I’m Vimala the mother behind the mother-daughter duo Instagram account. I’m sharing with you this neckwarmer design on Elisabeth’s blog as my first guest design post.
I learned to crochet while in school but didn’t really crochet much until I visited the US in 1995. I picked up a “teach yourself knit, crochet.” digest and haven’t looked back since. I recently started designing with my daughter Varsha who is a Fashion Designer by profession. Together , this mother-daughter duo wants to spread their love for crochet to everyone. We are based in India though currently living outside our homeland.

Materials required
- Acrylic yarn , Heavy Worsted weight, CYC 4 65-70 gms (120-130 yds)
- Suggested yarns : Red Heart super saver, Caron One pound, Lion brand pound of love
- regular crochet hook 8 mm
- Notions
- A pair of scissors
- measuring tape
- yarn needle to sew in ends / button
- 2 buttons (make sure that they can go through the tunisian stitches)
Sample used snap buttons and decorative button on top.

Gauge : 10 sts by 8 rows = 4″ by 4″ square
Note : Gauge is not important but will give an idea of how big the finished neck warmer will be.
Finished size : 8″ wide by 27″ long After blocking 9.5″ wide by 29″ long
Stitches and Abbreviations(US terms)
- Chain Ch
Edge St: Insert hook through two loops , yarn over and pull up a loop.

Tunisian Simple Stitch TSS( explanation for one stitch)

Forward pass FP: Insert hook from right to left in the vertical bar, yarn over and pull up a loop
Tunisian Purl Stitch TPS(explanation for one stitch)

Forward Pass FP: Bring yarn to the front of the hook, insert the hook from right to left in the vertical bar, bring the yarn back behind the hook, yarn over and pull up a loop

Return Pass (for all rows) RP: Yarn over pull through 1 loop, yarn over pull through 2 loops till you have just one loop left on the hook
Bind off: Done by following the same stitch pattern , (insert hook in next vertical bar, yarn over , pull up loop, yarn over pull through two loops, with yarn in front, insert hook in next vertical bar, bring yarn to back, yarn over , pull up loop, yarn over pull through two loops) repeat (..) until last st, work edge st in the last st, yarn over pull through 2 loops.
Note
- The loop on hook is counted as first st always. The Edge st is the last st always. The number in front of the TSS / TPS indicates the number of TSS or TPS that needs to be worked. The pattern uses both TSS and TPS in the FP . RP is same for all rows.
- Acrylic 12 ply from local store in Bangalore, India was used in the sample.
