Two  ways to get the Catherine Flon pattern

About the Catherine Flon Blouse

Catherine Flon was constructed using the Tunisian crochet technique and worked flat. The pattern uses the Tunisian Full Stitch for the main body and features a section with the Tunisian Purl Stitch. Since it is worked flat, the pieces are joined together and finished using the mattress stitch.

To Fit Chest Sizes: 30,34,38,42,46,50,54,58,62 inches. Finished Chest Size: 32,36,40,44,48,52,56,60,64 inches.

GAUGE

27 sts and 28 rows = 4″ over Tunisian Purl Stitch, blocked.

23.4 sts and 30 rows = 4″ over Tunisian Full Stitch blocked.

STITCH TUTORIAL

Tunisian Simple Stitch (Tss)- insert hook from right to left behind single vertical thread. yarn over hook, draw loop through and leave on hook, unless otherwise stated, the hook is always inserted in this way.

Tunisian Purl Stitch (Tps)– on forward half of row, bring yarn to front, insert hook in next vertical bar, bring yarn to back under hook, wrap around hook from back to front, draw yarn through st (purl made)

Tunisian Full Stitch (Tfc)

Row 1- Insert hook through 1st space and pull up a loop. Pull up a loop through each space across except the last space. Insert hook into the edge stitch and pull up a loop.

Row 2- Insert hook through 2nd space and pull up a loop. Pull up a loop through each space across and in the last space. Insert hook into the edge stitch and pull up a loop

Although not mentioned in the instructions, a return pass is worked after each forward pass.

Standard Return Pass- yo, draw through 1 loop, (this ch forms the edge st). Yo, and draw through 2 loops. Repeat step 2 until 1 loop remains on hook. Do not turn. The loop left on the hook is the 1st st of the next row.

Attach st marker to 47th,53rd, 59th,65th,71st,77th,82nd,88th,94th st on row.

Front Side B

Switch to 4mm hook. If you are unable to meet TPS gauge, you may follow the dimensions indicated instead of the stitch/row counts.

Fsc 41,48,55,62,69,76,81,88,95 or number of stitches to achieve a piece of about 6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14 inches wide. Turn.

R1: TSS across.

R2-86,88,91,99,95,95,95,99,99 (or number of rows to achieve a piece of about 12,12.5,13,13,13.5,13.5,13.5,14,14 inches long): TPS across.

Bind off. Fasten off. Leave a long tail.

Joining

Switch back to 4.5mm hook.

With both right sides facing up, lay front side A on top of front side B, with row 92,94,98,98,102,102,102,106,106 of front side A overlapping with the last row of front side B. Use stitch markers to keep pieces together. Rotating your work so that you’re working on the open side edge, attach yarn to fsc row of front side B and pick up a loop. *Pick up 2 loops in the next st, pick up a loop in the next 13,13,12,12,12,12,12,13,13 stitches*, rep from * to * 5,5,6,6,6,6,6,6,6 more times, pick up a loop in any remaining sts, ensuring you go through the sts from both front side A and B when you meet the stitch markers. 93,95,99,99,103,103,103,107,107 loops on hook. Perform a basic return pass.

R1-7: TPS across.

Bind off. Fasten off.

Working along the straight edge of front side A, attach yarn through last stitch in row 92,94,98,98,102,102,102,106,106 and last stitch of last row of front side B. Pick up a loop in each stitch, working your last loop in the first fsc row. 93,95,99,99,103,103,103,107,107 loops on hook. Perform a basic ret pass.

R1-7: TPS across.

Bind off. Fasten off.

With WS facing up, join front side A & B using a tapestry needle and sewing the last row of front side B to row 92,94,98,98,102,102,102,106,106 of front side A. Be careful not to pull too hard on sts as to not change sts shape. Do not join the vertical section yet.

Block both back and front pieces to size indicated above. While still on blocking mat and front pieces are laid out to size, join front side A and B by sewing along the edge of side B to A starting at the top and skipping the remaining 16 rows at the bottom of each side.

Join front piece by sewing along the TPS rows just completed using mattress sts or other joining method you are comfortable with to the back piece. Seam shoulders together.

Finishing

Collar

Attach stitch marker to the middle of the front of the collar.

Count the number of stitches around the whole neckline and cast on that number plus 4 using 4.5mm hook. The extra 4 stitches will be stitches in the seam area of the shoulders.

Sizes 30,34,38,42,46

R1-8: TPS across. Fasten off. Do not bind off.

Sizes 50,54,58,62

R1-10: TPS across. Fasten off. Do not bind off.

Sew collar to neckline by going through the slip stitches and the last row worked on your collar so it lays flat around the neckline. Fasten off.

Sleeves

You will be working in the round. Attach yarn to underarm and TSS around using 4mm hook.

Sizes 30,34,38,42,46

Round 1-3: TPS around.

Sizes 50,54,58,62

Round 1-5: TPS around.

Bind off.

Repeat for other sleeve. Fasten off.

Edging

Attach yarn to the top of the 16 skipped stitches of front side B. With 4mm hook, SC down and around the top and up to the side of front side A. Fasten off.

Weave in all ends.
