Callista Wrap by Divya of Stringtierey.

MEET THE CALLISTA WRAP!

Hello Everyone! I’m back again!! I’m Divya, the maker and designer behind Stringtierey.

I started crocheting alomst 20 years back, just as summer hobby and kept making small little things once in a while. It wasnt until 3 years back that i started Stringtierey and documenting my crochet journey. It wasnt long since i fell in love with pattern testing and subsequently designing.

I was looking forward to collaborating with Elisabeth for a spring make and I knew, I wanted to make a light Tunisian Crochet Wrap. I love working with texture and stitches and experimenting combinations of the same and hence was born – The Callista Wrap.

Callista means “Most beautiful” in Greek origins and it was a perfect name for this wrap, with its alternating lace and solid sections creating interesting drape and textures. It’s a simple lacey asymmetrical wrap worked in two colors creating beautiful stripes. The Tunisian Smock stitch and the Arrowhead stitch create a very light flowy fabric, that’s perfect for spring.

BIND OFF:

Note: We shall not be doing the standard slip stitch bind off.

We shall be doing the bind off row similar to the Row 65 but make chs instead of yop.

Bind off row: sk the 1st st, sc (tss style), *ch1, sc (tss2tog style) * repeat * to * till the 2nd last st, ch1, sc (tfs style), sc in the last st (lts style). (165)

Note: You can make the border in either colour A or colour B. If you choose colour A, then fasten off colour B. If you choose colour B, do not fasten off.

The Sample border is made with colour A.

BORDER:

For the border we will start working at the point where we finish the bind off, POINT A, TURN the wrap and work into the bind off stitches, with the wrong side of the fabric facing you. Refer below diagram.

ROW 1: ch1, sk the 1st st, *sc 6, ch1, sk1* Repeat * to *, till 3 stitches left, sc 2, ch1, sk1. [165] TURN 90 DEGREES AT POINT B, Now we shall continue working into the side chains of the rows all the way till the start of the shawl. sc2, ch1,sk1, *sc 6, ch1, sk1* Repeat * to *, till 4 stitches left, sc3, ch1, sk 1, sl st to the last st. [155]

For Row 2, we will be working an edge detail of (dc,ch1,dc) into the skipped stitch 2 rows below.

NOTE: Make the sl st long n loose so that the edge doesn’t pucker up.

Knit Picks Comfy Sport - for a limited time!

ROW 2: ch1, TURN, (dc, ch1, dc) into the skipped st 2 rows below, sl st 3, *(dc, ch1, dc) in the sk st 2 rows below, sl st 6, * Repeat * to *, till 3 stitches left, sl st 2, (dc, ch1, dc).  Now we shall continue working into the width along the bind off section. sl st 2, (dc, ch1, dc) *sl st 6, (dc, ch1, dc)* Repeat * to *, till the end, sl st to the last st.

Fasten off

BLOCKING:

Soak the Wrap in water with a mild detergent. Rinse in clear water and gently squeeze the water out. Do not wring or scrub the Wrap. Lay flat on a towel and roll it. Press and squeeze as much as possible. Stretch and Lay flat to dry and pin the corners for the design to stand out.

Note: The Colour A section will stretch out more than the Colour B section due to the lacey stitches. Kindly be careful to adjust and stretch accordingly, to retain the overall shape.
