About the Denis Beanie
The Denis beanie is constructed using the Tunisian crochet technique and worked flat. The pattern uses the Tunisian Honeycomb Stitch for the main body and features a large horseshoe cable. Since it is worked flat, the two pieces are joined together and finished using the applied ribbing. Although measurements are available in the pattern, Denis beanie crochet pattern can be easily adjustable to fit YOUR head circumference by following the instructions below.
WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE THE DENIS BEANIE
Here’s a list of the supplies you’ll need for the Denis beanie.
- THE YARN: The Denis beanie is made using Lolabean Yarn Co. in Midnight Marauders on her Soy Bean base. The Soy Bean base is a DK weight, 100% Merino Wool; 231 yards/100 grams. I used a little bit less than 2 skeins for my beanie.
- COMMERCIAL YARN OPTIONS The Denis beanie can also be worked up in these gorgeous yarns from WeCrochet.
- Mighty Stitch is a superwash combining 20% Superwash Wool and 80% Acrylic. Easy-care yarn in a wide range of gorgeous hues, perfect for Denis beanie.
- City Tweed DK This yarn begins with alpaca and Merino fibers dyed two different colors and then blended to make a subtly rich, lustrous heather. The use of Merino and alpaca makes it soft and warm. This weight is gorgeous in two-color crocheting.
- If you choose to hold your yarn double, a good substitution is using a bulky weight yarn. Hue + Me is a bulky weight blend of 80% acrylic and 20% wool that can be used for that option. With its excellent stitch definition and easy-care properties, Hue + Me is one of my top choices for this pattern.
- Swish a machine-washable yarn that is super soft, and worthy of being worn against a baby’s skin. If you are making a Denis beanie for the tiny humans in your life, this yarn should be your go-to.
- Gloss DK is a luxurious blend of soft merino wool and lustrous silk. Because this fiber blend takes dye very well, Gloss DK features a large spectrum of beautifully saturated colors. Next-to-skin soft with a velvety texture and sheen, this yarn shows off the most intricate of cables with ease.
- THE HOOK: The Denis beanie uses a 4.5mm | US G-6 Crochet Hook and 5.5mm | US I-9 Tunisian Crochet Hook with 22” cable. For this project, I used this crochet hook as it has just the right amount of grip, comfort, and glide for hours of crocheting.
- THE NOTIONS: You will also need a pair of scissors, a tapestry needle, and blocking supplies: I used a garment steamer, these blocking mats, and these rust-proof blocking pins to block my beanie.
