Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It.

I found this book amongst Ry’s things after he moved in with me and after we read As a Man Thinketh by James Allen. Although I was not very familiar with Charlamagne Tha God, I have come to find the book, Black Privilege, to be very interesting and inspiring. He teaches through the many mistakes he’s made in life, the wisdom he has amassed from his mentors and his refusal to give up on a dream. He lays out five principles:

1. There are no losses in life, only lessons.
2. Give people the credit they deserve for being stupid – Starting with yourself
3. It’s not the size of the pond but the hustle in the fish
4. When you live your truth, no one can use it against you
5. We all have privilege, we just need to access it

I won’t say that this is the best book I’ve read. I have read many many great books. However, I will admit that this book has a plethora of valuable information on not giving up on what you want and how to let go of dreams that aren’t your own. I will not say I agreed with everything he did. There was a chapter after he lost his job with the Breakfast Club I thought he was just plain dumb and stupid for not getting the assistance that was rightfully his.

PYP (Pick your Passion, Poison, or Procrastination);  Passion which leads to prosperity, Poison which leads to pain, and procrastination which leads to nowhere because you’re waiting for success to find you.  The second chapter of the book is about what so many people go through. People who spend their life not amounting to anything because they gave up on their dreams, tried to follow someone else’s or never got out of their comfort zone.

A great read for anyone who is having a tough time finding their calling. I cannot say that I agree with everything he has done in his life but the core messages in this autobiography is a very powerful one for all, regardless of race, age or path in life.
