The Heart of Love

84396158_1461643997347166_7238217936232513536_nHi everyone!

My name is Elisa, the maker behind STRINGS AND CUDDLES. I am so blessed to have met Elisabeth. She’s one of the few makers that motivated and pushed me to start blogging and designing. She’s one of those people / Insta-friends who believe in me. At first, I really hesitated to do this because English isn’t my first language and I don’t really have any idea of how and where to begin. But with all the help and guidance I got from other makers, I just closed my eyes and went with it.

Before we dive into the pattern I am going to share with you, let me first tell you something about myself. I am a stay-at-home mom to a beautiful little girl who drives me crazy, haha! I’ve been crocheting for more than 5 years now and knitting for about 2 years. I learned both crafts by watching YouTube videos. Crafting is my therapy. It helped me cope with my homesickness when I moved here to the USA to be with my husband. This hobby has helped me a lot. I am also so grateful for my loving husband for being so supportive of what I do. The truth is, I think I wouldn’t be able to do all these without him. He’s my number one fan and number one supporter! So blessed to have him and our daughter!

Now, let’s talk about this pattern that I designed for this feature. When I found out that Elisabeth was looking for guest bloggers, I immediately applied! Of course, I wouldn’t be here now if I wasn’t accepted, haha … My first design was supposed to be a shawl but I changed it because it’s the month of LOVE and I thought why not make something lovely and cuddly, right? So I asked Elisabeth if I could change my first design and then showed her the new one. Luckily, she approved it, yay!!!

I designed this pattern using my Cricut and then saved the image and sent it to Stitch Fiddle to convert my image to a chart. After editing and checking if everything was correct, I started crocheting it. I showed the design to some friends and asked them if they could help me test it. I am so fortunate to have a couple of them said YES to test! Special shout out to Stefanie Budnik and Carrie Ferrier for all their time and effort to make this pattern a better one!

Like what I mentioned earlier, it’s the Month of Love, so I designed a pillow with a big heart and in it is the word “LOVE”. I named this pattern The Heart of Love Pillow! The name speaks for itself!

I had so much fun crocheting this pattern and I hope that you’ll like it too! So without any further ado, let’s begin!

NOTES

  1. This pattern uses tapestry and/or intarsia crochet technique. I have included some helpful YouTube video tutorials below that you may want to check out before starting.
  2. Ch 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch. Ch 1 uses MC yarn.
  3. When the pattern is written like (MC) x 2, this means, you have to make single crochet with the main color in the next 2 sts.
  4. I recommend using a highlighter pen to track your row and stitch progress.

ASSEMBLY

  1. Take your 2 panels, WS facing together and RS facing out (front panel facing you). With MC, attach yarn in one of the corners of your panels, ch 1, 3 SC in the first st (where you attached/made your ch 1 and SC in all loops on both panels). *SC evenly across until you reach the next corner, 3 SC in the next corner*. Repeat from * to * two more times. This leaves you one side of the pillow unworked. Now, insert your pillow insert then repeat from * to * one last time to close up the pillow. Sl st in the 1st st to join. [Make sure to align properly your stitches and rows together to get the perfect edging. You may want to use stitch markers to help you with this tip].
  2. Ch 1, work Rev SC (or Crab Stitch) in every st around. Sl st in the 1st st to join. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
  3. Optional: You may add a pompom or a tassel in each corner of your pillow.
